Our Trip to Australia, straight to the mines of Fura Gems in Queensland was a great experience for our company. Being very close to the Gemfields, Fura Gems in Australia is located near the Anakie fields & the Great Northern mining with 73 mining liences. Read more about Fura Gems Here.
The trip shows the true meaning of sustainable and responsible sourcing. We have seen many Sapphire mines in the world but this one was truely special, this is when we decided to stick with Australian Sapphires for the rest of our lives, after what we saw and felt.
The Australian Government's eagerness to keep the Mother Earth in good situation gave us a big sign of positiveness. The company itself Fura Gems, which by the way auctioned the world famous 55 carat Mozambican unheated ruby to Sothebys, is superbly well managed to become the worlds first Australian Sapphire company that mines in such rigorous rules of the country. The rest of the Australian sapphire small miners from the older generations (so called sustainable) left areas in the sides of the roads to have pits and dump yards without cleaning it back. This may have been done in the 50's, we don't know.
